Alex Palou will be entering his second NTT INDYCAR SERIES season in 2021, but his first with Chip Ganassi Racing and the No. 10 NTT DATA Honda.
Palou arrives from Dale Coyne Racing with Team Goh, where the Spaniard finished runner-up for the 2020 rookie-of-the-year honours. His inaugural season was highlighted by three top-10 performances, including a career best of third at Road America in June, and qualifying seventh for the Indianapolis 500.
Palou replaces Felix Rosenqvist in the No. 10 as NTT DATA returns as the primary partner for several events on the 17-race schedule. The 2021 season will mark the eighth consecutive year that NTT DATA has served as the primary sponsor of this entry.
When seconds count, staying connected is everything. The INDYCAR Mobile App powered by NTT DATA allows fans from around the globe to engage with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES regardless of country or network provider. Since its launch, use of the free app has increased by 36% and fan sessions are averaging over three minutes longer. The app continues to earn high user ratings on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Tony Kanaan, driver of the No. 48 Honda, has established himself as one of the sport’s most popular drivers during a career highlighted by a series championship in 2004 and an Indy 500 victory in 2013.
The 2021 season marks a return to Chip Ganassi Racing and a reunion with NTT DATA after spending the past three years with A.J. Foyt Racing. The Brazilian heads to the organisation where he drove the No. 10 NTT DATA car from 2015-17 prior to his exit for A.J. Foyt Racing.
In his 18th season, Kanaan will share the No. 48 driving duties with Jimmie Johnson. He will compete in the four oval races on the schedule, including running the NTT DATA livery as the primary sponsor for the Aug. 21 race at St. Louis’ Worldwide Technology Raceway on Aug. 21. NTT DATA also will serve as an associate sponsor for his other three oval races, including the Indianapolis 500 on May 30.
Kanaan, who has recorded 17 wins and 15 poles in his career, holds the INDYCAR “Ironman” record for most consecutive starts at 318, which began in 2001 and ended in 2020.
Jimmie Johnson will be a rookie in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES for 2021, but he already has carved a legendary name for himself in NASCAR.
During his 20-year NASCAR Cup Series career, the native Californian earned seven series championships that is tied for the most in history with legends Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt Sr. He also ranks tied for sixth with 83 career wins, which includes two prized Daytona 500 titles.
Johnson will be sharing the No. 48 entry with INDYCAR veteran Tony Kanaan and scheduled to compete in only the street and road course portion of the 2021 schedule. Of those 13 events, NTT DATA will serve as the primary sponsor for Johnson when he competes in the street circuit race at Toronto on July 11.
Scott Dixon, driver of the No. 9 Honda
Scott Dixon, driver of the No. 9 Honda with season-long associate NTT DATA sponsorship, is a six-time NTT INDYCAR SERIES champion and already considered one of the greatest drivers to ever compete in the sport.
Dixon enters the 2021 season, which marks his 20th consecutive year with Chip Ganassi Racing and 21st overall, as the defending series champion and looking to extend two prominent streaks. The Auckland, New Zealand native owns the INDYCAR record for most consecutive seasons with a victory (16) and is tied with the A.J. Foyt for the most seasons with a win (18).
Entering the season with 50 career wins, Dixon continues his pursuit of Mario Andretti (52 wins) and Foyt (67) in that all-time category. That win total also includes a prized Indy 500 crown in 2008.
