The British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Partners with NTT DATA to Design and Develop an Online Application Tool for Oil and Gas Wells

PLANO, TX – June 14 –  NTT DATA Services, a recognized leader in global technology services, today announced that, through its Canadian subsidiary, Sierra Systems Group, it worked with the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources (EMPR) to develop a custom, open-source program that accepts applications to restore dormant and inactive oil and gas sites, most of them in the northeastern corner of the province of British Columbia.

Within fifteen minutes of the program’s launch, the site received its first application and by the end of the first day, EMPR had received more than 1,100 applications from over 80 organizations. The requests equal up to $152 million in reclamation work, which if completed, will potentially reclaim over 2,400 inactive wells and could support up to 1,200 jobs for British Columbians.

The online application tool was created collaboratively by a team from NTT DATA and EMPR in less than three weeks using Kanban and other agile development methodologies and went into production with no support issues.
